We are going to show you two ways to reinstall the firmware for your MXQ.
- Reinstalling the MXQ firmware with an sd card.
- Reinstalling the MXQ firmware with a USB storage device
Most of the steps are the same for both. When they are different we will outline both steps.
First download your firmware. We have one version here:
Next you need an SD card or a usb that at least has a capacity of 1GB. After you download the file you will need to unzip the the zip file. Remember where you unzip them. You will need to copy them shortly.
Once unzipped you should have 3 files, factory_update_param.aml, m201-ota-20150703.zip and recovery.img. (Please do not unzip the m201-ota-20150703.zip.) Copy these files to the root directory of your sd card or usb.
Important! These files must be in the root directory of your device.
Insert your SD card or USB into the box.
Make sure your box has the power unplugged. The HDMI cable will need to be plugged in.
On your box at the back you will see a hole labelled ‘AV’. In the hole, at the very back is the reset button. Insert your chosen device into the hole and you will feel a clicking button at the end. While pushing and holding the reset button plug in the power cable.
With the reset button still pressed using your tool, the screen should flash up an opening logo.Hold in the reset button until the android figure comes up.
Now you are almost finished. Remove your tool from the AV hole. The progress bar below the Android figure will move to the right for a bit and then after about two or three minutes you will see a menu screen.
Simply choose to ‘reboot now’.
Choose “Apply update from ext”
Select “Install from udisk”
Now your MXQ firmware should be reinstalled. Enjoy!
