Install XBMC/Kodi on an Android Device
One question we have come to many times from our customers is can you install Kodi on our tablets? And, if so, how do you do it?
Well, this tutorial is for you, our dear and loyal customers. Enjoy, and if you have any questions, fell free to Contact Us
Kodi, the current version of XBMC, isn’t available in the Google Play Store. on some android devices in order to install apps that are not in Play Store some steps must first be taken.
First we must go to settings->security. Here we will enable the “Unknown sources” option on the right side of the screen.
Now we need to get the program. We will go to the developer’s website, http://kodi.tv/download/
You will have 2 choices under the android section, ARM and X86 for most android devices and all of Digital Rein’s current tablets the proper selection will be ARM
Once you tap the ARM text under the android image, the download should begin.
Now we just need to wait for the XBMC/Kodi to download.
Installing the XBMC/Kodi app package is as simple as just finding the .apk you just downloaded and opening it up. You can do this either though the download menu in the web browser or selecting it with a file explorer.
Note: Occasionally XBMC downloads as a text file. (.txt) If this happens you will need to download a file manager and change the file extension to .apk instead of .txt
One file manager you can use for this is ASTRO available in google playstore. The link is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.metago.astro&hl=en
Once you select the file a message will appear on the screen with an install button in the bottom right corner. Select the install button.
Wait for the installation to complete.
When the install is complete a screen will appear that has an open button on the bottom right corner. Select the open button.
Congratulations!! You have now installed Kodi and have a fully operating media center on your android tablet.
The next step is putting some killer add-ons on it. But that is for another day…
